Privacy Policy

1. Who we are
Clever Cook is a mobile application and website (getclevercook.com) that helps you plan meals, shop for groceries, log food, and organise nutrition-related progress.
Privacy and support contact: support@getclevercook.com
2. Information we collect
We collect information you provide, information generated when you use the app, and limited information from device permissions you grant. Data is associated with your Clever Cook account (user ID) unless we say otherwise below. We do not treat account-linked analytics as anonymous.
- Account and profile — email address, sign-in provider (Apple, Google, or email), username / display name, country and supermarket preferences, goals, dietary preferences, allergens or avoided ingredients, age or date of birth, sex/gender, height, weight, goal weight, activity level, and derived calorie/macro targets.
- App content you create — recipes, folders, meal plans, grocery lists, meal and food logs, habits, hydration and supplement logs, assessments, notes, photos you upload, and related metadata.
- Nutrition and fitness information — food logs, estimated nutrition values, goals, and (if you grant Health access) step counts used for badge/progress features. Step counts may sync to your Clever Cook account. HealthKit-derived information is not used for advertising, marketing, or cross-app tracking.
- Photos and media — meal photos, recipe photos, and optional progress photos you choose to upload. AI analysis of meal photos is performed only after you accept the in-app AI processing consent.
- Location (Smart Shop) — when you grant location permission, the app uses Apple MapKit / Core Location on your device to find nearby stores or geocode a postcode. Clever Cook does not send your latitude/longitude to Clever Cook servers, OpenAI, or analytics. Nearby store names and grocery list text may be processed for Smart Shop features; coordinates are not stored on your Clever Cook account.
- Camera and photo library — used for features you invoke (for example meal photos). Meal photos you choose to analyse may be sent through Clever Cook’s servers to OpenAI. You can deny or revoke these permissions in iOS Settings.
- Microphone and speech recognition — used when you dictate text (for example grocery items). Audio is processed by Apple’s speech recognition on or via Apple’s services; Clever Cook does not store or upload the audio recording. The resulting transcript may be saved or sent as ordinary text content you create. You can deny or revoke microphone and speech permissions in iOS Settings.
- Purchases and subscriptions — subscription status and entitlement information via Apple In-App Purchase and RevenueCat. We do not receive or store your full payment card number.
- Product analytics (optional) — if you opt in to analytics in the app, we receive product interaction events and limited technical context (for example app version, platform, locale, subscription status band, and an account-linked user ID when signed in). Session replay is disabled. Analytics does not include email addresses, names, photos, prompts, auth tokens, location coordinates, HealthKit values, meal contents, goals, dietary preference, allergy counts, or calorie/protein target bands.
- Support communications — messages you send to our public contact address.
3. How we use information
- Provide, personalise, secure, and improve Clever Cook
- Power AI features (meal scan, recipe import, suggestions, and related processing) through Clever Cook servers and OpenAI, subject to your AI processing consent where required
- Manage subscriptions and restore purchases through Apple / RevenueCat
- Show content you choose to share via an unlisted share link or (where enabled) a public profile
- Measure product usage when you opt in to analytics
- Respond to support requests and protect against abuse
- Comply with legal obligations
4. AI processing
Certain features send content you submit (for example meal photos, recipe text or links, or structured planning inputs) to Clever Cook backend services (Supabase Edge Functions). Those services may call OpenAI to generate structured results returned to the app. AI outputs can be wrong; they are informational estimates and assistance only and are not medical advice or a diagnosis. You can decline AI processing consent in the app; features that require AI will then be unavailable until you consent.
5. Service providers and platforms
We do not sell your personal information. We use processors and platforms to operate Clever Cook, including:
- Supabase — authentication, database, storage, and server-side functions
- OpenAI — AI inference for consented features (via Clever Cook servers)
- RevenueCat — subscription entitlement management alongside Apple In-App Purchase
- PostHog — optional product analytics (EU cloud), only after in-app analytics consent
- Apple — Sign in with Apple, App Store billing, HealthKit (with permission), speech recognition (with permission), and device OS services
- Google — Google Sign-In when you choose that sign-in method
- Website hosting — hosting and delivery of getclevercook.com (currently Vercel)
These providers process data under their terms and our configuration, limited to providing their services.
6. Public profiles and shared links
Content you keep private stays in your account. If you create an unlisted share link, anyone with the link can view that recipe or folder. If public profile discovery is enabled in a future release, content you mark public may be browsable on your public library pages under `/u/…`. Do not share content you do not have rights to publish. For version 1.0, public discovery may be disabled while unlisted link sharing remains available.
7. Retention
We retain account and app content for as long as your account remains active and as needed to provide the service. After you delete your account in the app, we delete associated account data from Clever Cook systems as described below, subject to short-term backup retention, security logs, and legal record-keeping where required. Optional analytics events are retained according to our PostHog project retention settings. Purchase records may also be retained by Apple under Apple’s policies.
8. Account deletion
You can delete your account in the Clever Cook iOS app under Profile → Delete Account. Deletion permanently removes your account and associated Clever Cook data such as saved recipes, folders, meal logs, photos we store for your account, assessments, and progress records, and attempts to revoke Sign in with Apple access where applicable. Deleting your Clever Cook account does not cancel an Apple subscription — cancel billing separately in Settings → Apple Account → Subscriptions. You may also contact support@getclevercook.com for help.
9. Your choices and rights
- Withdraw analytics consent in Profile (Legal & Support → Product analytics) — we stop configuring/sending PostHog events and reset the analytics identity
- Withdraw AI processing consent in the app where that control is offered
- Change or revoke camera, photos, microphone, speech, location, and Health permissions in iOS Settings
- Restore or manage purchases through Apple; restore is also available in-app
- Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export personal data, or to object to certain processing — contact support@getclevercook.com
10. Security
We use industry-standard safeguards such as encrypted transport (HTTPS/TLS), access controls on server credentials, and authentication for account APIs. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. Use a strong unique password for email accounts and keep your device updated.
11. International transfers
Your information may be processed in countries other than your own, including by Supabase, OpenAI, RevenueCat, PostHog, Apple, and Google. Where required, appropriate transfer safeguards are used by those providers and/or by us.
12. Children
Clever Cook is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact support@getclevercook.com.
13. Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the revised version on this page and update the “Last updated” date.
